We the people are guaranteed certain rights in the Constitution. These rights include freedom of life and the pursuit of happiness. These are guaranteed to the people as long as we follow the laws of the land. There are twenty-seven amendments to the United States Constitution. The most important in my opinion is the first. It states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or restrict freedom of speech or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Some questions regarding this topic include why these rights do not apply to students and the reasons why rights are limited to ensure students have the right to learn in a safe environment. I intend to demonstrate that some student rights are being violated and my administration is being repressed in public schools. We citizens are guaranteed exactly ten rights. Yet I believe that freedom of speech is one of the most important rights we are guaranteed. It allows us to say things about government that we disapprove of and should be allowed in schools. I understand that the administration needs to be able to create a safe learning environment for students, but what if obscenities do not disrupt class, such as in the hallways or at lunch. These are places where students can vent and talk in a way that allows them to relax for the time they have.
