Fighting for independence means that they must take responsibility for their actions. Most high schools incorporate several key words into their school motto, these usually include respect, responsibility and accountability. Up until a certain age, almost all decisions a teenager made were under the guidance of their parents or guardians, but now they need to step up and try to hit a home run. It takes a tremendous amount of skill, preparation, luck, and pressure to complete a more challenging task perfectly the first time on your own. Passing a driving test, staying focused throughout all four years of high school, and interviewing for that first job are some of the first tasks a teenager will face. Some will sail, many will move on, others will be defeated the first time, and that's why people start on similar paths with similar goals but go in different directions at different speeds. Goals are designed to challenge the person, to help them improve, to give them something to work towards, but the goal doesn't always reach its goal. No one will ever succeed at every task they face in life, but failing to complete it does not always mean failure. When pursuing a goal, a person will learn about their strengths and weaknesses, their passions and desires. These self-discoveries will in turn change the decisions they make and, ultimately, the goal
