Some of the things they talk about agree with Sears, but some topics are very different. The first major theme of the article talks about breastfeeding. Sears says breastfeeding is the best way, if it's right for mom and you can even make it through toddlerhood as you and baby would like. Science says there's not much to argue with Sears, even when it talks about how long you can breastfeed. The American Academy of Pediatrics agrees that frequency and duration are up to the mother and baby to determine. The next big issue was when parents should respond to crying. Sears says parents should respond to all cries as soon as possible. Furthermore, they state that excessive crying can cause brain damage and lead to further developmental disorders. Science says Sears' advice is overkill. Allowing babies to cry for long periods of time will not cause brain problems
