Internet Regulation I am in favor of sensible Internet regulation. Unmonitored and unregulated websites contribute to threats to American security, the promotion of anti-American views, and deaths from posting instructions on how to build weapons of mass destruction. Furthermore, the lack of control of Internet activities encourages bullying, the promotion of pornography and the sexual abuse of women and children. Internet fraud is becoming common; identity theft, phishing, spamming, spyware and malware cause financial and security losses for innocent victims. First, we examine the role of Internet regulation on threats to American security. Last year, Army Private Bradley Manning leaked military and other government documents to the WikiLeaks website. "Among the leaked documents were sensitive battlefield reports from Iraq and Afghanistan, hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables, and a video of a deadly 2007 Army helicopter attack that WikiLeaks shared and dubbed ' collateral homicide'" (Gresko). This is a great example of the need for Internet regulation. This leak of classified military documents has provided America's enemies with materials that have the potential to cause the deaths of our American soldiers, compromise military tactics and plans, erode the trust of our foreign allies, and fuel hatred against America among radical groups. Last year's Boston Marathon bombing is an example of destruction caused by men influenced by radical anti-American websites. A growing distrust of Americans and the military actions they take to promote democracy and the well-being of citizens of foreign countries is fueled by hate groups that use the Internet to spread anti-American views. “The Tsarnaev brothers le......middle of paper......and have maintained a higher journalistic standard than websites, will continue to report and publish those things the public needs to know.In conclusion , regulation of the Internet is necessary to protect America's security, protect the innocent from becoming victims of Internet pornography or bullying, and protect the American public from Internet fraud. While Internet users have a responsibility to stay informed about Internet patterns and threats, to use parental locks, to update viruses and security software, and to use caution when making purchases on the Internet, it is the government's responsibility to protect and regulate businesses that pose a financial or security threat. to its citizens. Therefore, regulation of the Internet is necessary; and the government must exercise its power to force the technology industry to cooperate to make the World Wide Web safe and reliable.
