Advances in agriculture, textiles, transportation, and economic growth only became possible thanks to the Industrial Revolution. In the United States between the 18th and 19th centuries, we moved from separating cotton from seeds to the use of an automated cotton gin created by the American inventor Eli Whitney. This allowed lower class citizens to be able to have important goods such as medicines and clothing. Before the American Industrial Revolution, people were mostly farmers and life moved slowly and tedious work was needed for simple tasks. But with inventions like the cotton gin and the assembly line, mass production evolved. During this period, the United States experienced some of the fastest economic growth of any country. The Industrial Revolution developed the world and how it produced its goods. There have been numerous inventions that have made everyday tasks easier to perform by eliminating the tedious work done by people by replacing it with a machine. The invention that kicked off the Industrial Revolution was the steam engine, invented by James Watt in 1775. The steam engine made travel faster and more efficient, which is why it earned the name “Iron Horse.” The steam engine not only powered trains, but also powered factories (The Industrial Revolution United State, page 27). This allowed many factories and industries to transport their goods further and at a faster pace. The numerous inventions led to the radical growth of the American economy. There would be more export of goods, which would mean more money flowing into the economy to increase the value of the US dollar. Mass production was cheap and meant that more goods could be produced, resulting in more money… from production to mass production. Building the way to a colossal economy, developing countless jobs with a better work ethic, and making life easier with innovative inventions, the American Industrial Revolution was a blessing to America's progress. Inventions from Eli Whitney's cotton gin to Henry Ford's Model T, American life and the American economy changed dramatically. By moving from the agrarian economy to manufacturing and textiles, it opened the doors for most people to start a new job in a new economy. It would not have been possible to accomplish the simplest tasks as we would have them today if it were not for the Industrial Revolution. Therefore, the Industrial Revolution was a notable phenomenon in American history.
