Topic > Consequences of stricter gun control - 636

Gun control advocates are wrong to argue in favor of stricter gun laws because stricter gun control violates the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners and it does not affect criminals who are the ones who commit crimes and do not respect the laws. If crimes are committed by those who already don't obey the laws currently in place, then what good is stricter gun control? There have been other countries that have implemented very strict gun laws and have seen violent crime increase. There have also been countries like Iceland that have very lax gun laws and this year 2013 saw the first police shooting. Let's first look at the bill of rights that our founding fathers drafted after freeing themselves from what they considered an oppressive government. . On the constitutional rights of American citizens, there has been a debate on the meaning of what is written and what the word means for each of us. When we understand the Second Amendment to the Constitution we must understand the times they lived in and the meaning of the words used in the amendment. Let's analyze the Second Amendment. A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, will not be infringed. Today the United States code says that any able-bodied person between the ages of seventeen and forty-five, not a criminal or mentally ill person, is a member of an inactive militia. “Be necessary to the security of a free State.” This is an important part of limiting the federal government or oppressive government due to the overreach of the federal government. Remember that they just freed themselves from an oppressive government and wanted to prevent this from happening again. This is why it was stated "free state" and not federal g...... middle of paper...... house and a person or group of people entered the house, they do not have a right intrinsic to protect and defend oneself? Will it be effective if they can do this against someone who is intent on harm and perhaps physically stronger than them? These are just some of the reasons why gun control is not the right solution. When you take this information into consideration, tougher gun laws not only violate your constitutional rights, but they won't hurt criminals who already don't obey the laws. Gun control brings too many negatives into play by limiting the rights of law-abiding citizens. Works CitedWheeler III, S.C. (2001). Armed violence and fundamental rights.
