Miracles seem to be obsolete and never happen in our lives. Could the non-existence of miracles be due to the fact that they are impossible or could it be that we have surrounded our lives with science and technology and are unaware of the miracles happening around us? Do we use the term “miracle” correctly? For example, the hockey game played by the United States and the Soviet Union at the 1980 Olympic Games is called “Miracle on Ice”. Yes, the United States was a huge underdog in the game, but can their victory be classified as a “miracle”? We use the word miracle so loosely that the word has become more of a myth and we will never find a true miracle. Determining what miracles are, whether they happen in the world today, and how they actually happen is what we need to discover to fully understand miracles. Dictionary.com states that a miracle is an extraordinary effect or event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is attributed to a supernatural cause. This is a typical definition that any person in the world would say, but it does not give full credit to God for miracles. The second definition provided on dictionary.com is an effect or event that occurs or is considered to be a work of God. This second definition is how Christians should think about miracles. Miracles are works of God. In CS Lewis' book, Miracles, he writes: “A miracle is absolutely not an event without cause or without results.” Miracles or works of God bring results that benefit others and should also make His name known. Miracles should give glory to God every time because without God there are no miracles. In the Bible, Jesus performs many miracles which he also passes on to his disciples. Jesus did a wonderful thing... middle of paper... it happened naturally. Was it just a coincidence or was it one of God's works?
