JS Mill's argument made me understand this statement because he stated that democratic legislation is strategically, epistemically and morally better. Strategically, democracy helps take into account the interests, rights and opinions of most people in society when decisions are made. Many more people must be taken into account than in a monarchy or aristocracy because every person in society has, at least to some extent, political power. Epistemically, democracy is said to help participants make the right decisions. This is because democratic decision-making tends to be better informed about citizens' interests and is the best way to counteract those interests. In a moral sense, democracy encourages individuals to be more autonomous, but they must also take into account the perspectives and points of view of others.
