The artificial notion of a traditional family does not exist, so I must always be aware that families come in many forms. My job is to embrace all families and make every effort to better understand individual definitions of family. This may include taking time to learn about the customs of a family transplanted from another country. What I deem welcoming can be misinterpreted as rude, thus creating embarrassment; weakening our partnership. Conversely, you may need to seek out peers who speak their native language if language is a barrier. It may be prudent to use online services to gain greater knowledge of a student's cultural heritage or socioeconomic background for better understanding. As I mentioned previously, seeking support groups within the community that mirror a student's home life will be helpful to the student and provide me with the opportunity to gain knowledge. I, as a teacher, will be a lifelong learner. Additionally, having information about different types of families readily available within the classroom family resource center will demonstrate my commitment to diversity. On the contrary, all families will come to appreciate each other and will be able to provide assistance to each other. It strengthens not only the classroom family, but also the community. It is of great importance to me to honor diversity and I would like diversity to be celebrated every year through a family diversity
