Divorce is an emotionally painful experience for everyone involved, especially the children in the family. However, law officials continue to craft laws and develop regulations to make it more difficult for spouses seeking a divorce or separation to obtain one. The family must deal with child custody and support, spousal support such as counseling, property distribution, and a possible name change. Divorce is not only a financial struggle for the families involved, but it is also a nuisance between family relationships. The divorce statistics in America are alarming. In 2013, 43% of all marriages end in divorce. (Trudi Strain Trueit) Of this percentage, only twelve percent had an easy and amicable divorce. (Trudi Strain Trueit) Research shows that more than twenty percent of people have parents who argue excessively before the divorce. (Trudi Strain Trueit) Sometimes separation helps to calm these tensions, but statistics show that the majority of couples who separate get divorced. Other times, arguments continue after the divorce, with children left in the middle. Studies show that the divorce rate among couples with children is 40% lower than among couples without children. (Miller) The average divorce takes about a year to complete. In that year your life and your family change drastically; emotionally and financially. Not only will you have to deal with the death of your marriage, but there are also financial and child-related issues to complicate the situation. You will have to deal with issues related to child custody, child support, alimony, property division, and debt division. In Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington and... middle of the paper... the situation will make the situation more difficult to understand and weaken the relationship between child and parent. To weather relationship problems and family trauma, more laws must not be passed that make divorce harder to obtain.
