Cited by both Macedo and Carens in their articles, in my reading I found an interesting article in the Boston Review by Martha Nussbaum “Patriotism and Cosmopolitanism”. I found many flaws in cosmopolitanism and the idea of open borders, and I found the theories in this article great for connecting both Macedo and Carens, as they explained the many aspects of border morality. Macedo condemns cosmopolitanism throughout his chapter; Macadeo highlights his main view against cosmopolitanism as an economic problem for Americans. Our loyalty lies in giving jobs to our poor residents and not bringing more equally poor people into these jobs, this does not solve the problem of poverty in the long term. However, closing the border completely and further restricting immigration is problematic. In Nussbaum's article I have a problem with the unrealistic goal of universal cosmopolitanism, since it is impossible for an individual to think of himself as fully a citizen of the world. A sense of identification with home will always remain as no one feels welcome or welcomed in any nation or community on earth. It is impossible to make a patriotic person unpatriotic since no two people have had the same thing
