Topic > Star Wars: The Iconic Galaxy - 1501

Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there lived a princess. Her name was Princess Leia. Growing up, she didn't realize that one day she and her twin brother would travel through space, fighting the dark side and fighting their father. This is Star Wars, the epic battle between good and evil. This is a truly iconic film series, some of the best science fiction there is! Although, this is my opinion, I have a feeling that many people would agree with me. As we take a look inside the film series, you'll see a glimpse of what could be out there, and we have George Lucas to thank for that! A man had a vision and his name was George Lucas. Born on May 14, 1944 in California, George was just another person. He grew up reading adventure stories and watching film series on television. Growing up he also wanted to be a racing driver, but after a car accident he instead cultivated a passion for cinematography. Film school at the University of Southern California is where he created his first science fiction film, Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138:4EB. The film failed miserably and critics did not understand its philosophical depth. He was later challenged to create a comedy by a friend. This was the real beginning of his career. The next movie was called American Graffiti. This showed, in Lucas' words, "a warm, confident, uninvolved life." It was made for just $780,000 and grossed $50 million at the box office. After this successful project, the idea that George had throughout the project evolved into a feature film, Star Wars. In the 1977 version, Star Wars amazed with special effects, fantastic landscapes and captivating characters. Made for $11 million, the film grossed over $513 million worldwide during its original release. Lucas continued the story of the Jedi... middle of paper... fought flat-footed and couldn't produce the toys in time for Christmas orders, so was forced to sell boxed coupons for the action figures of Star Wars. . Mark, who plays Luke, lit up when he discovered his face was a mask on a cereal box! Children had to gouge out their eyes and were allowed to wear masks. It also has to be on a bubble gum card. He said, “I thought I had to be athletic to be a bubble gum card!” Carrie Fisher said, "You're not really famous until you become a Pez dispenser... And I'm not famous, Princess Leia is... And I look like her." At the 1978 Oscars, Star Wars earned 10 Oscar nominations and took home seven for best visual effects, sound, editing and production design. It didn't win Best Picture, but George was still proud and happy that Star Wars had made more money than any other film, and everyone knew it was one of the best films of the time, maybe ever!!
