On April 20, 1999, Columbine High School senior Dylan Klebold and his friend Eric Harris killed twelve students and a teacher before taking their own lives shortly thereafter. That day they were armed, cruel and full of hatred. They decided to channel that hatred towards their classmates and teachers in the form of chaos, devastation, and death. Crimes like this are sensitive topics, especially when young people are involved. The topic is even more sensitive when both the killers and the murdered people are themselves children. Youth homicide is rarely defined as anything other than horrific, illegal behavior carried out by children or adolescents. It is simply seen as a criminal act. I think it's much more than that. Youth homicide, in essence, is a search for acceptance.
