For thousands of years to this day, the best way to officially be someone's partner is through marriage. People have been practicing marriage for thousands of years. Many cultures see marriage as the best way to celebrate a couple's love until death parts them. “Marriage establishes and maintains family, creates and sustains kinship bonds, and is the basis of community” (Rowe 2). Marriage is a bigger concept than happiness and is the basis for creating a peaceful home for the family. According to Rowe, “This sense of home requires the dynamic participation of both women and men – women as mothers and men as fathers – to fulfill the daily roles of teaching, raising, and protecting children” (2). Parents have an obligation to take care of their children, so that when they grow up they can become a person strong enough to support themselves. But there are different opinions on whether the raising of a child should be shared equally between parents. One group believes that it is essential that a child grows up with the love and care of both parents. Meanwhile, others believe that raising children should be shared in a family-friendly way. While single parents argue that even without a parent they can give their children the necessary love and care.
