ApplauseMany people believe that they are in control of their destiny and that they have the ability to do whatever they want; however, what people don't realize is that they are in a never-ending battle with issues beyond their control. Bob Samuels, describes that it is possible that some shows or films such as the film Inception (Christopher Nolan, 2010) suggest that capitalism and our current present have attempted to incorporate ideas and create a fantasy life that companies believe is best for the their target audience. The 2014 Kia Soul Hamster commercial ("Applause" by Lady Gaga) uses three main forms of manipulation by enticing viewers with the introduction of an ordinary life that people can also identify with, using women as a means of physical attraction and creating a fantastic life that you will get by purchasing the product. In the next minute the public's desires, dreams and fantasies are at the mercy of the Kia commercial. However, some people are unaware that the commercial attracts viewers' attention with current pop culture music aimed at a younger audience and people who want to relive their youth. Additionally, soft, high-energy animated characters who assimilate into the lives of ordinary people create a world that blends ordinary places with fantasy life. Both the music and animated characters work together and provide a fun escape from reality. With precise advertising techniques the advert is also able to target children. Children will laugh and dance along with the commercial and will be able to connect the characters and the song to the commercial. The developers of the advertising are aware that children spend many hours in front of the TV and that they have a great impact on their parents' future purchases. Nonetheless, the advertisement has… half the paper… we will actually be driving a newer model vehicle and attaching this dream life to this particular vehicle. The car itself is almost like any other new car on the lot, but with the careful use of new modern manipulations the viewer will desire this car over any other. That is, until a new commercial replaces the Kia commercial in the viewer's mind. The formation of an idea in a person's mind and the person thinking it was their idea has attracted the attention of companies and the media for years. Businesses are driven by the desire to sell and increase their profits. They have learned ways to manipulate and create methods to get people's attention and make them act on the messages sent. Kia in this commercial manipulates the audience by creating a fantasy life where anyone can connect, be desired by women and live a rock star life.
