A person's cultural, spiritual, and personal values are influenced by their worldview and philosophies in nursing practice. Raised on the island and coming to the United States at the age of sixteen under a Catholic family who taught me to give my all in everything I do in life and how to treat people who are different from us. My inspiration and motivation growing up was to become a nurse like my mother. I have been given values, obligations to fulfill that will accompany me for the rest of my life. Integrity and responsibility are other values that contribute to my vision of work and my nursing philosophy. I am drawn to the profession because of the skills and compassion I can offer. As a nurse, when I take care of my patients I give my all, I take responsibility for everything I do and I say it has helped me achieve my goals and work harder. I also liked being around people and had one of those personality types that leads to caring about people. Nourishment occurs through the stages of life. The Cambridge online dictionary (2006) defines nurture as “to care for, nurture, protect someone or something and help it develop”. As a nurse I provide care to all types of patients and families whose cultures, traditions, languages, spirituality and backgrounds may differ from mine, so I try to provide the same quality of care that I would if I were in their place. Because we don't understand the value system underlying someone else's culture, we interpret their behaviors as negative. I learned the value of respect from my parents and siblings by standing up for what I believe in when a dispute arose. The desire to be a caring person for a human being is not learned but innate, so we must care for patients as a whole person, body... in the center of the card... t night regarding his patients, if it is a emergency or a lack of understanding of his orders, he would not respond to my phone calls which endanger the patient's condition. As a nurse I know the obligations, rules and procedures that must be followed when providing care to patients. Since my phone calls were not answered, I called the intensivist doctor who came to evaluate the patient and give orders. I will also inform the assistant head nurse of the problem. I come across an ethical dilemma that I have handled according to my personal opinions or the way I think is right as long as it does not interfere with my patient's values and complies with ethical rules and regulations.
