Music has the power to influence people in great ways. It can heal broken hearts, provide and escape from reality and speak where words cannot. Both The Metamorphosis and “Sonny's Blues” use music to help the main character in life. In these works, music reconnects both Gregor and Sonny to humanity and opens previously closed windows. Gregor, the main character of The Metamorphosis, not only woke up to the realization that he was not human, but also reconnected with humanity through the sound of music. Music becomes an important factor in Gregor's metamorphosis from human to insect. He spent much of his human life doing routine tasks that brought him no benefit, such as work, and he lost sight of his purpose. He lost contact with his family, even though they were always there, and he began to lose himself. At first he was confused about what was happening to him, but he soon realized that the metamorphosis had a purpose. His transformation, however, opened his eyes to his surroundings. The insect Gregor began to appreciate things that the human Gregor did not, such as hunger...
