Julian Assange's website, WikiLeaks, has made global headlines in recent years. Assange began by leaking documents he had acquired on the Internet about banks in various European countries. Chelsea Manning, an Army soldier stationed in Iraq at the time, joined Assange and handed him thousands of classified documents to which Manning, a military intelligence analyst, had access. Manning was in contact with a former hacker named Adrian Lamo who he asked for advice on whether or not he should disclose the documents. Manning going against Lamo's advice not to leak the documents caused Manning to be arrested after Lamo reported him for the leak. This was a major blow to Wikileaks which had just lost its main source of classified US government documents. After 9/11, the U.S. government realized that information must be shared among intelligence agencies to counter terrorist attacks. A side effect, however, is that the information is no longer needed, which allowed Manning to leak everything. After receiving this classified information, Assange began making it available to the media. Assange's actions were morally and ethically incorrect. He shouldn't have leaked so many classified documents, especially without redacting the names of informants whose lives might have been in danger. These documents leaked from Manning to Assange were intended solely for the eyes and ears of those privileged to know the information, not for the front page of the New York Times.
