In this book the soldiers are truly fighting a war they cannot control. They rely on their strength and strategy to get through, but what they should actually do is make sure the gods are on their side. “But you-exalt it, Olympian Zeus: your instincts rule the world! Come, grant the Trojans one victory after another until the Achaean armies repay my dear son, building ever higher the honor he deserves! Zeus alone had the power to change the outcome of the war and he did. He agreed to help Achilles take revenge on Agamemnon. This is a type of violence that no one in this story can escape because no one can stop the will of the gods. Cosmic violence also has to do with the environment. The culture of a society has a lot to do with the people who exist within it. This means that violence is almost chemical because people are born and grow up with it. Become a part of them. In this story all men live to fight in war and show their courage which contributes to the violence shown in the first chapter. Violence is practically inevitable. Could the world exist without violence? Stories like this tend to prove that the world cannot exist without violence because that is what people are raised to take part in
