Topic > Importance of Honey Bees - 1096

Honey bees started disappearing rapidly without any reason in 2006. Honey bees are vital to the life of humans, plants and animals. In the article “The Importance of Honey Bees,” Maria Boland writes, “Honey bees pollinate 80% of the earth's plants, which is 1/3 of what humans eat.” The world should try to save honeybees because, without them, plants wouldn't be pollinated, animals would die, humans would have trouble finding things to eat, and the world would lose incredible amounts of money. In the book The Backyard Beekeeper, Kim Flottum writes that Albert Einstein once said: “If the bee disappeared from the surface of the globe, man would have only four years to live. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man. Because honeybees are important to all life on earth, our government should work to help educate children and adults about honeybees, regulate the sale of pesticides, and help fund research to protect honeybees. Without honey bees the plants would not be pollinated which means they could not survive. According to Maria Boland, “bees pollinate seeds and crops worth $14 billion or more per year.” In the National Geographic television program, “Honey Bees Resist Deadly Pathogens,” Jennifer Holland states, “Bees pollinate some important crops including: alfalfa, tobacco, and almonds.” Without major crops, farmers cannot feed their animals. In the article “The Cycle of Pollination,” Matthew Kemshaw writes: “Bees pollinate plants by flying to plants and picking up pollen on their legs, and as they fly from plant to plant, some of the pollen is inadvertently transferred from their paws on other blooms, causing the process... middle of paper... there are some that destroy them." If the government controlled the pesticide manufacturing process, it would help people avoid spreading bee-harmful pesticides on their plants. People on the other side of this argument would disagree and say the government shouldn't fund research, shouldn't regulate pesticides sold, and I would say don't educate people about honey bees. The government is known to give money to things that are not important; in the article “The American Dream”, Michael Snyder writes that the United States donated 1.5 million dollars to research into why a third of lesbians are more overweight than gay men. Honey bees are an essential element for life on earth. If there were no bees in the world, nothing could survive because the world depends on bees to pollinate crops so they can grow and provide food for animals and humans..
