Topic > Changes in Air Travel - 1082

INTRODUCTION The terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 significantly changed the landscape of air travel. Congress instituted mandates to screen all checked bags and improve passenger screening procedures. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been charged with overseeing these changes. The main obstacle was the old, outdated equipment that was unable to handle the demand, which resulted in a significant delay in the time it took to accommodate passengers. As the airline industry recovers after the attack, the challenge is how passengers move through the airport quickly and efficiently. In the history of air travel, there have been numerous initiatives attempted to improve the passenger experience. The three I will focus on are the mobile lounge concept implemented in 1962 with the opening of Dulles, and the new Fast Travel concept initiated by the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) and the so-called "security checkpoint of the future" also it is under development. tested by IATA (Engle, 2011). On the surface, mobile living rooms seemed like a solid principle. It kept the need for walking on the part of the passenger to a minimum as parking and passenger handling facilities were close by. In theory, if expansion was needed due to additional aircraft, adding additional mobile lounges would be sufficient to support demand (Young & Wells, 2011). When Dulles International Airport opened in 1962, it was cutting edge technologically. It was the first airport with separate buildings to accommodate people and planes. You will be processed in the main terminal and then travel to mobile lounges which may serve as waiting rooms or be used to transport passengers directly onto the plane. Considering the number of people and... half the paper... the experience is much more pleasant. The so-called “security checkpoint of the future” (Engle, 2011), developed and tested by IATA, could offer passengers an exciting experience. In light of security concerns, it may be a few years before something like this is introduced at our airports. Works Cited IATA honors Abu Dhabi International Airport for fast travel.
