“One, two, knockout punch”... save it for the ring, not the field, the stands or the parking lot. It has been proven that parents losing their temper during their children's sporting events can be potentially fatal. Two hockey dads argued and then got into a fist fight after their sons' rough play during their hockey practice drills. The two men, Thomas Junta and Michael Costin had fought once before this incident, but this would be the last fight between the two men. In fact, this would be Costin's last fight of his life. Junta was charged with manslaughter. Michael Costin's children testified at the trial and tried to extend Thomas Junta's sentence by describing what they saw and how their father's death so affected them. Junta's children did not attend the trial because they were too upset (“Thomas”). Disastrous events like the one involving Junta and Costin should not happen. Many more people are affected by these circumstances than just parents. Overzealous parenting of children at youth sporting events poses a real danger and negatively impacts young people involved in sport. Understanding the causes and effects of sports anger will help you avoid these problems. Several factors contribute to parents' episodes of anger toward their children's athletic activities. There are short-term effects from vulgar actions at youth sporting events. Long-term effects can also result from devastating events at sporting events involving young people. Additionally, specific precautions can be taken that will help prevent such horrendous situations from occurring at sporting events.
