This could be anything from belief in a deity, or multiple deities, to an afterlife, or even both. For example, Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Hindus all believe in gods and an afterlife. While some religions do not believe in an afterlife, such as Roman paganism, all religions believe in the supernatural to some extent. Another common feature of religions is the belief that something is sacred. It could be a book, a text, an animal, a city or anything. For example, Muslims believe that Mecca is a sacred city and believe that the Quran is also sacred. Many other religions also do the same; Christians believe the Bible is sacred and Hindus believe cows are sacred. In the past, Graeco-Roman pagans considered statues, as well as temples, sacred. A third thing that religions seem to have in common is rituals, or specific things that believers are expected to do. For example, many Christians believe they must go to church every week and pray every day. Many Muslims pray towards Mecca every day as part of their religious rituals. Many more of these examples can be seen in countless other religions. Overall, religions, although very different in many ways, actually have quite a few things in common.
