Of all the things unionized workers complain about it's Wal-Mart because they have prices that no one else can match. This is not entirely true because Walmart starts their cashiers at minimum wage and salary increases only happen when they have a good performance review. Food 4 Fewer cashiers are being promoted from their utility workers at up to $9.16 an hour. Once promoted, their pay increases to the next level of $9.94 an hour, and after working 690 hours their pay increases 11% to $11.05 an hour. A Food 4 Less cashier who works an average of 32 hours per week can earn up to $16.85 Monday through Saturday and $42,125 per hour on Sunday (“Agreement”). This does not include the 15 cent annual increase that occurs on the anniversary date of the ratification of the approved union contract. That's no feat when a grocery cashier can say he gets paid $42 an hour to ring up groceries and has no high school education
