Great Depression“No one could have lived through the Great Depression without being affected by it. No amount of post-Depression experience can convince anyone who has lived through it that the world is economically safe.” was once stated by Isaac Asimov. The Great Depression was one of the terrible and troubling periods in American history. Many homes have been affected by this tragedy and many families have been destroyed. The man had the opportunity to prove himself by both continuing and fighting with his family to abandon him. In Cinderella Man Jim Braddock was the kind of man willing to do anything for his family. His determination and strong will to provide for his family made him excel in his boxing matches. Jim Braddock's true inner character was shown as a family man and a loving husband. The Great Depression did not turn all men into great family men; many left and never returned. The Great Depression affected so many Americans and changed so many people from the people they were supposed to be. The stock market crash is questionable as to how much it affected the Great Depression. Many economists disagree about how much the stock market crash affected the Depression. Milton Friedman states, “The stock market crash in 1929 played a role in the initial depression.” This can conclude that the accident was not the only problem of depression. It changed expectations of the future from a positive vision to a negative vision. Many economists at the time argued that a sharp decline in international trade after 1930 contributed to worsening the Depression. Many people mistakenly believe that the Great Depression was caused by the great crash, but this was only initially, many other things happened... middle of paper... a united and happy family. In the film and in In the Actual Story, depression affected everyone and every family differently. Some families handled stress differently than others, some struggled to support their children while others abandoned them. Many things contributed to the depression, but initially it was the stock market crash. Many social and economic conditions worsened as the Depression progressed. The Braddock family unit has proven strong and determined. The title Cinderella Man is true for Jim Braddock because he came from a run-down apartment to become a boxing champion. His twist of fate is a "Cinderella story" because he came from nothing during the depression, but his commitment to giving for his family made him a champion. Nothing is more important than the family and love that the Braddock family represents.
