Topic > Essay on Equality: The Role of Gender Equality in Society

Along with the pay gap, discrimination in the workplace is a serious problem. Smallbusiness.chron.com states that “stereotypical views about gender can lead supervisors to engage in the illegal practice of passing a person for a promotion because of gender” (Gluck). Due to stereotypes or gender roles, as I explained before, women are not considered serious contenders for raises and/or promotions. This is not only extremely problematic, but it is also illegal, as the quote points out. As it turns out, sexual harassment is an even bigger problem in the workplace. EEOC.org recognizes that "harassment does not have to be sexual in nature, however, and can include offensive comments about a person's sex. For example, it is illegal to harass a woman by making offensive comments about women in general. Both the victim and the harasser they can be a woman or a man, and the victim and the abuser can be of the same sex." While it is more common for women to be the victims, men are definitely harassed too. All these examples show how the pay gap, gender discrimination and sexual harassment affect gender equality overall. In conclusion, I realize that there are many people who could read my essay
