Topic > Duty and Ethics: A Law Enforcement Officer's Perspective

This program is made for kids who know at a young age that law enforcement is something they want to do in the future. It gives you a step ahead of everyone else who wants to become a law enforcement officer, but has never been in the program. The program is once a week for 2 hours, during the two hour meeting you learn discipline, you do a lot of physical training and the sheriffs teach you the things they learn while at the academy. This program not only taught me a lot, but made me realize that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I was interested from the moment I signed up to the moment I had to move on. At 20, I was hired as a cadet at the Laguna Beach Police Department. This is where I learned the most, working in the field with police department investigators. This is where I see things falling into place. I see cases from the ground up, work my way through arrest warrants, and see criminals go behind bars. The detectives trust me so much that they show me everything they deal with and everything they do to catch criminals. I work side by side with them getting everything they need, from gathering evidence to helping them find criminals. This job has shown me where I will be in the future and has opened up so many opportunities for me. These programs showed me what police officers and sheriff's deputies actually deal with on a daily basis. It's not a TV show or a movie, it's real
