Wilberforce was not entirely satisfied with his result, since he only banned the slave trade. Wilberforce then continued his work for the abolition of all types of slavery within British territory. Despite public pressure to abolish slavery and all of Wilberforce's efforts, Parliament still refused to ban slavery, until the reform removed most of slavery's supporters. In early 1833, Wilberforce wrote one last petition due to his frail health. The debate in Parliament lasted 3 months and, on 26 July, the bill on the abolition of slavery was finally passed in the House of Commons. A courier went to Wilberforce's home to inform him that slavery would finally be abolished in all of the British colonies.
