A. Determining the Feasibility of One of the Service Lines Proposed in the Attached “Service Line Development Case Study”: Trinity Community Hospital is located in an economically viable community. Built 25 years ago, in a prime location, this 150-bed, non-profit hospital offers community residents a wide range of general medical, surgical and supportive services. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) of 2010, signed into law, requires a nonprofit hospital to conduct a community needs assessment. An in-depth analysis of the community assessment will be widely publicized every three years to justify the tax exemption. Interventions will also need to be included to meet evaluation needs and must meet at least one of the following criteria: • Improve access to health services; • Improve community health; • Advance medical or health knowledge; • Alleviate or reduce the burden of government or other community initiatives (Evans, 2011). Trinity Community Hospital's community health needs assessment gained input The hospital's CEO and senior management obtained input from medical staff members and community leaders to develop a vision for the hospital. A five-year plan identified orthopedic, oncology and cardiology services to develop to better meet the needs of the community. A five-year target for these services has been outlined along with the level of capital investment required to develop these services. Finally, a financial analysis was conducted to determine whether sufficient margin will be generated for future growth. A detailed orthopedic service line analysis is included in this document to determine the feasibility of the proposed service line.A1. Trinity Community Hospital prides itself on nursing staff known for clinical expertise and patient care. Doctors will be more attracted to come and practice in our facility if they know they will be supported in their practice by an experienced nursing staff. The community hospital offers opportunities for the improvement of the skills and competences of all staff. In the five-year plan, the certification of orthopedic nursing staff is expected to be >75% and the retention rate of orthopedic staff is expected to be >90%. Nursing staff will assist with patient education, with expected pre/post procedure class attendance >75%. It is expected that joint work between the orthopedic medical team and competent nursing staff will increase.
