The Essence of Nursing Practice A nurse's job goes far beyond performing physical assessments, administering medications, and entering patient results and information healthcare on a computer. Their responsibility to promote well-being involves many more aspects of care that often seem to be ignored. As a nursing student doing my own clinical practice, I noticed that the patient-nurse ratio is one of the main reasons why nursing today is not as perfect as one would expect. This relationship forces nurses to give less priority to certain details of patient care that, if often avoided, can lead to negative outcomes.
