NAACP means National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. It was incorporated on February 12, 1909 in New York. A group of blacks formed it when a group of white citizens wanted to have social justice. There was a problem called "Call". It was a collection of 60 signatures. At their meeting were some famous black figures, such as Ida B. Wells, W. E. B. DuBois, Henry Moscaitz, Mary White Ovington, Oswald Garrison Villiard, and William English Walling. Everyone led the “Call”. He renewed civil and political freedom. This is a network of 2,200 branches. It also covers 50 states. It also covers the District of Columbia, Japan and Germany. It is divided into seven regions. The NAACP is managed and governed by a National Board of Directors. The largest headquarters is in Baltimore, Maryland. They have over 500,000 members existing today. The NAACP has made great strides toward the advancement of African Americans. (General History, 2014). When the NAACP was formed it was because of the practice of lynching. A major riot has broken out in Springfield. After the NAACP became official, it put an end to violence committed against blacks. The organization's letter was released to mark the centennial of Lincoln's birth. Most of the people's rights were guaranteed in the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments of the United States Constitution. These amendments went hand in hand with the NAACP. It promised an end to slavery, equal protection of the law, and universal adult male suffrage, respectively. The main principles of the NAACP were to ensure political, educational, social and economic equality. It eliminated racism and prejudice. The NAACP eliminated so many problems when it was created (100 years, 2009-201… halfway through… it had many civil rights representatives and they were known as leaders of the movement. This included Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks and many others, because of these famous African Americans civil rights had many sit-ins (LDF History, 2014) In conclusion, the NAACP is still an activist group nowadays and still fights for the rights of African Americans. There are still members of the KKK and Klan group in America who try to prevent Africans from being a normal citizen, but as long as the Thirteenth, Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments are in play they will live the life of any common American citizen. The NAACP will try always to fight for desegregation. Maybe in another twenty years America will be completely free from racism and segregation. America has come a long way. The world has improved so much that nowadays we have an African American president.
