Sexual Crimes Against Women Did you know that approximately 19,000 sexual assaults occur every year? (Torregrosa).Not only in the United States but globally. Any sexual crime against a woman is a violation of human rights. In a personal definition, human rights are the rights that every person should have and deserve. The right to protection from unlawful punishment, torture, freedom of thought, expression and the right to one's life and liberty. Sexually assaulting a woman is a human rights violation in many ways. It is not moral and should not be justified as such. Being sexually assaulted takes the life of a woman as she knows it. Being sexually assaulted leaves a woman living in constant fear. After experiencing that women can be afraid to start a relationship, taking away someone's freedom is a violation of human rights. In many places women have no control over their bodies. Sex trafficking is a bigger problem than people may see. There are many victims of trafficking in the world, mainly women and children. Sex trafficking in India has increased by 122% (Tilak). In India too, they experience dowry, which is when a wife dies from burns, personal injury or unnatural circumstances at the hands of her significant other. As Gandhi's famous quote says: “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. Women in India need to be taught that it is okay to ask for help from a husband who hurts you in any way and that they should not be ashamed to seek it. With so many charges against the female victim, the male rapist wins and is left unhindered to rape again. and again, protected by a toxic climate of both social and legal (hagopic) impunity. When women take cases to court and the man is found not guilty and gets away with it, the woman feels even worse. They feel like they are the one in the wrong and have to live in fear that their rapist will hit them
