Today, marriage dissolution is used as an easy way out when couples no longer agree. When couples are unable to maintain a happy marriage, divorce can be agreed upon. Divorce is more common nowadays, making the divorce rate continuously increasing. About 40 to 50 percent of married couples in the United States get divorced (Kazdin). In America there is a divorce every 13 seconds. That's 6,646 divorces per day and 46,523 divorces per week (Irvin). The three main causes of divorce are lack of communication, financial difficulties and infidelity. For starters, lack of communication is a significant cause of the recent increase in divorce rates. A marriage breaks down when lines of communication fail. People will tend to stay silent about money management and work matters because they don't want to burden their partner. Most of the time they think it's easier to deal with it alone, but in reality they push their partner out of the room and close the door. When this starts to happen, it's harder to push back. In marriage, one person's problems should be handled by both. You will feel neglected if you have no say in a particular situation. Thus, resentment and distance begin to grow between the two. Those small problems now become big problems, leading to separation. To have a solid foundation, every couple needs to be listened to and express their feelings. This includes conflicts of opinion with concerns about small or large controversies such as religion, children, job opportunities, and money management. Another cause of divorce is due to financial difficulties. Budgeting and debts resulting from a low or reduced income are an example of a financial cause for divorce. Arguing about how to manage the budget becomes a big problem in marriage. In most cases, one partner is unhappy with the other individual's excessive spending habits. This will cause a stressful situation which will lead to an unhealthy relationship and lead to divorce. A couple struggling to make ends meet can potentially cause conflict within the marriage. The way the economy is going today, it seems like we are struggling more and more to keep our jobs.
