Topic > A Look at Bullying in Schools - 710

Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-age children that results in a real or perceived power imbalance (stopbullying.gov). Bullying is now present in every type of school, from primary school to university. And it seems like kids are getting nastier and nastier. Victims of bullies seem to want to take more drastic measures to stop the torture. Bullying is rapidly becoming one of the most reported acts at school in recent times. A fourth-grader named Antonio wrote an essay reflecting on his life as a bully and how much he wanted to change. As a teacher I know I couldn't do it alone, so I would come up with a plan of action that will produce the most success. My plan will first be to promote school-wide awareness about bullying, make the student body aware that bullying will not be tolerated, and work with Antonio to come up with a program that will keep him busy and on the right track. The action would be to promote awareness throughout the student body. One way to do this is to hold a pep rally and hold a contest in which each class will design an anti-bullying poster and an essay on the effects of bullying. The winning class will have their poster and essay read at the pep rally. This way the students must all work together, because they will win or lose as a team. It will be wonderful to work in class because too often children are in class with their peers and don't even know their names. I will also organize a lesson to teach children about bullying. In the lesson I will cover the following questions: “What is bullying? What is cyberbullying? Why do students bully? Why are students targeted for bullying?" (pacer.org, 2013). The problem with children is that they never think that someone... middle of paper ......treats others as you would like them to To help Antonio change his former bullying behaviors, I would implement an action plan. My plan will first be to promote school-wide awareness about bullying, make the student body aware that bullying will not be tolerated, and work. with Antonio to develop a program that keeps him busy and on the right track.
