The film was created in memory of Nick Carraway, so some scenes are quite realistic, while others are dramatized and imaginative. Recalling Luhrmann's quote about Red Curtain cinema and its depiction of emotions in the theatrical world, abstract scenes such as green light are quite acceptable and do not seem exaggerated or too abstract. This scene fits well with the story and overall feel of the film.
