Craft class is where my story kicks in about how and why I began to dislike any form of essay or short story assignment. Even though the class was originally supposed to be an art class, I ended up writing more essays in that class than in my English class. Not having a real art class disappointed me because I was really good at drawing. I wasn't the only student who didn't like Mrs. Craft. Statistics showed that 67% of our class had a lowered GPA due to their coursework. The statistics were distributed at a council meeting to discuss what should be done about the situation. My dad was and still is a board member at Orangeburg Preparatory School and that's how I found out about those statistics. The essay that changed my mind about wanting to write another essay was titled “Where We Would Be Without the Hindenburg.” This essay should have covered a significant part of the Holocaust's past and had to be at least five pages. It was only a draft, yet I clearly remember receiving the paper back without any marks. The grade I received for the “Rough Draft” was a seventy. I never thought I could be rated harshly in a rough draft. I asked her what was wrong with my essay since she hadn't left any marks on my paper. Ms. Craft said, “Figure it out for yourself since you are the one who made the mistakes.” So, I returned to my desk with a feeling of disgust in me
