Eldrick (Tiger) Woods was born on December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California to Earl and Kultida Woods. He was the only child of this particular marriage, but had two half-brothers and one half-sister from his parents' previous marriages. Tiger is a combination of a few different ethnicities (Caucasian, American Indian, Black, and Asian). He defines himself as a “Cablinasian”. His father introduced him to golf at the age of 2 and from an early age he was recognized as a golf prodigy. Tiger appeared on the Mike Douglas Show to showcase his skills in 1978 and progressed in the sport of golf as his father coached him. He won the 9-10 age group at age 8 in the 1982 World Junior Golf Championships and has won this tournament a total of six times. He won numerous tournaments at a young age, some of which include the US Junior Amateur Championship and the US Amateur Championship. Even early in Tiger's career, it was obvious that he would become a great golf legend later in life. In August 1996, Tiger became a professional golfer. In April 1997 he won his first major, The Masters. This victory would be the first of many successes for Woods. That same year, he won three PGA Tour events and rose to first place in the official world golf rankings. He was the fastest golfer to achieve the No. 1, in 42 weeks. This achievement alone proves how incredibly skilled Tiger was and still is at the sport of golf. Other titles won in 1997 include PGA Player of the Year and youngest golfer to win the Masters. For the next year and a half, Tiger seemed not to play as well as he had previously. So, he began working on his form and swing with his coach, Butch Ha... middle of paper... for introducing him to the sport and helping him along the way. But much of Tiger's experience comes from determination and hard work, just like anything else. He wouldn't be as good as he is today if it weren't for the determination and passion he has for the game of golf. For this reason today he is the best golfer in the world, and perhaps the best golfer anyone has ever seen.
