Topic > Two Great Plays Think Alike - 752

Many times, when artists release a stack of stories, songs, movies, or plays, you can usually see some similarities in their work. Even if you can't see it in all of their work, you can almost always find something here or here that reminds you of their other work. Taylor Swift is a perfect example of this, she has different songs with different topics but you can see a lot of similarities in her work. Another artist who does this is the famous Shakespeare. In his two plays The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream I noticed some similarities. Also because the acts are similar enough to be compared. In the first act of both plays there is already a defined problem, in the second act the lovers both make romantic gestures, and in the third act both men leave their ladies. In the first acts of both of these plays, they already have a definite problem. A problem has formed. In Romeo and Juliet the problem shown at the beginning of the play is the obvious family conflict between the Capulets and the Montagues. When you first start watching this play, you're greeted with teasing and bickering between the two families and Abraham says, "Do you bite our thumb, sir?" act 1 scene 1, line 43, showing the need they feel to show off their manhood. You get the feeling that this has happened many times in the past because of what the prince stated, but this is an obvious problem for Romeo and Juliet at the beginning of Romeo and Juliet. So, the problem in the first act of A Midsummer Night's Dream is that Hermia is already ready to marry Demetrius. This is an obvious problem for her and Lysander because they are in love and want to get married, but it is also a problem because her friend Helena is also in love with Deme...... middle of paper...... sick. So, because Lysander “loves” Helena, he leaves Hermia at night to follow Helena. Obviously, both men leave their women, their loves, in one sense against their will and in another way totally by choice. Comparing The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream I found that the acts had many similarities like in the first act there is a specific problem at the beginning, in the second act they both make romantic gestures, and in the third act they men leave their love. In the first acts of both these comedies a specific problem has already arisen. Subsequently, in both second acts, the two groups of lovers make a romantic gesture. Finally, in the third act of both plays, the two men leave their ladies. Obviously, there are similarities in Shakespeare's two great works of love.
