I didn't have a solid writing philosophy before this semester, but to some extent I understood the importance that writing can have in a situation. Now I understand that writing has two outcomes: gain support or lose support. When writing an essay it is best if the writing is as specific as possible. In this way it is hoped that the public will not be left with a confused opinion on the topic. Since the beginning of the semester I have made a conscious effort to change my writing style. Instead of the box format I learned in high school, I try to use a more graceful approach while still staying organized. Additionally, I evaluate the credibility of a source before using the information to support my thesis and understand the role of using ethos, pathos, and logos. My assignments are now written with more developed thinking by elaborating the ideas in the body paragraphs. By participating in assignments throughout the semester, I have achieved the goals of the English Composition 101 course to varying degrees. My writing has improved in multiple areas, such as knowing who my audience is and how writing drafts and making revisions helps me evaluate the the effectiveness of my essay. I am also aware that academic writing differs from everyday writing because for academic writing I need to present the most credible evidence in an organized format. Plus, I can now effectively evaluate my writing to know where I can improve. Creating an effective essay requires several components, but one specific component is knowing your target audience. Without knowing the intended audience I cannot write an essay with the appropriate tone and language. Using the correct terms and jargon is critical to maintaining the audience's attention and being able to...... middle of paper ......rify my supporting sentences. While my writing still has areas that need improvement, I have achieved my goals to some extent. Some of the goals I achieved only to a limited extent, but these goals will be fully achieved as my writing develops further. My academic writing has also improved because I have taken the time to fully understand who my audience will be. I use the appropriate tone and language to appeal to my audience, so that my thoughts are understood. Creating an essay that flows with organization and transitional sentences also improves my academic writing by demonstrating that I understand what I'm writing about. Completing the homework for English Composition 101 was challenging and quite difficult at times. However, I would not have learned to grow in academic writing without pushing myself to complete the objective of this course.
