Performance Management at the University of GhanaIt is commendable that Balme Library is seeking to enhance its diverse customer base through several initiatives, including improving its system of performance management. Aguinis (2013) noted the importance of an organization's mission and goals being tied to the performance management plan. There are two prerequisites that Aguinis (2013) lists before a performance management system can be implemented: knowledge of the strategic objectives of the organization and knowledge of the work. Increasing customer focus through a solid performance management plan will help the organization increase effectiveness in this regard because this objective will be clearly linked to the role of each position within the organization. That said, the lack of job analytics will hinder any progress in this area. Reasons to prove this claim will now be discussed along with proposed improvement plans. Job Analysis Considering the fact that knowledge of a position is fundamental to the creation of a performance management system in association with understanding the strategic direction of the organization, a vital aspect The Balme Library is missing a fundamental component of the management system performance, job analysis (Aguinis, 2013). Job analysis provides an organization with an understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) needed to adequately perform a specific position (Aguinis, 2013). Job analysis is a systematic exploration of a position, the skills, resources, abilities, knowledge, and education needed to perform a position (Human Resource Management, n.d.). A job analysis also serves as the basis for developing a position which hinders the effectiveness of performing, evaluating, evaluating, and renewing a position (Aguinis, 2013 ). This failure is costly as talent resources are wasted, suitable candidates may be ignored or discouraged from applying, and budgets may be depleted due to high levels of employee turnover (Baldwin, 2013). Clearly this is an area of the performance management system that deserves serious and immediate attention. Works Cited Aguinis, H. (2013). Performance Management (3rd ed.).
