There is no doubt that science fiction television shows are changing the world and the way society views the world. There is a large amount of people who watch science fiction television programs on a daily basis. One of the most recent television programs, Sci-Fi Investigates, features several investigations into the wonders of the world. Sci-Fi Investigates provides entertainment to its audience and carries out various investigations to try to find explanations and answers for its viewers. The Sci-Fi Investigates team seeks to explore some of the most intriguing mysteries, legends and paranormal phenomena. Benjamin Radford, a scientific investigator of the paranormal, believes that Sci-Fi Investigates seeks to distinguish itself as an investigative series (Radford 12). Radford also highlights a phrase said at the beginning of each episode: "For the first time ever, a series that doesn't just ponder questions, but hunts for answers" (Radford 12). Additionally, the Sci -Fi Investiga investigation team travels to several distinct cities in a desire to investigate and gather information to justify the legends, mysteries and paranormal phenomena they present. For example, the investigative team travels to Dulce, New Mexico and Sedona, Arizona to try to investigate UFO sightings, cattle mutilations, and other paranormal activity. The investigative team also travels to New Orleans, Louisiana to try to explore Voodoo rituals and celebrations and to observe how Voodoo magic is performed. After witnessing some Voodoo rituals and celebrations, the investigation team became extremely emotionally involved. Viewers also got to experience the emotion contained within the team. Yet there is another… middle of the paper… Society needs to care more about getting reliable, scientifically supported facts. Although the programs main concern is to provide entertainment to its viewers with investigations rather than present viewers with clarifications on the investigations carried out, the observations presented in Sci-Fi Investigates should be viewed more skeptically, considering that the topics are crucial to society . Viewers with little knowledge of the topics covered in each individual episode of Sci-Fi Investigates may be fooled into believing the lies presented. Others who are somewhat educated on the topics presented may be confused as to what the episodes may be trying to achieve or what message the investigators are trying to convey. With a little logic, concern, and questions, viewers will be able to distinguish between real science and pseudoscience.
