Post-war racism, in Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities. Over the years Australia has had many different problems with racism and racism has affected people's lives. Many racial groups were affected, particularly Aboriginal people. The end of the Second World War in 1945 marked a huge change in the forms of racism. Australia transitioned from "superior" white Australians dominating immigrants and Aboriginal people. To the relatively multicultural and welcoming society that exists today. During the Second World War Australia was on the verge of being invaded, the Japanese in Sydney Harbor being a huge scare to many Australians. After the Second World War it seemed that Australia needed to populate or die. So the government made a big push to fill Australia. Many children were born thanks to this new idea. They were called the 'Baby Boomers'. Baby boomers were being born at enormous rates and swelling Australia's population. The White Australia policy was virtually abandoned as migrants poured into Australia. White Australians still felt superior, but they needed these immigrants to populate Australia. In the five years following the war, approximately 171,000 immigrants arrived in Australia. The government introduced the Assisted Passage Program which gave immigrants temporary accommodation in Australia in exchange for two years of work. Most immigrants came from places like Poland, Yugoslavia and the Baltic states and then later from Germany, Grease, Italy and Malta. Immigrant families were placed in old military barracks in extremely poor conditions and exposed to racial discrimination. They were often called names like "wogs", "bolt" and "reffo". The families were separated. Men have been sent to work on things like t... half the paper... it could be us or the worst it has been other countries, but it's still not acceptable how they are treated, unlike other white Australians . Eventually Australia will and will have to change.http://www.unhcr.org/statistics/STATISTICS/47daae862.pdfhttp://cacreview.blogspot.com/2007/06/aboriginals-in-australia-still-worst. htmlhttp:/ /agsearch.ag.gov.au/clsearch/home?query=aboriginal&new=1http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=379056http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Immigration_to_Australiahttp:/ /www.johnpilger.com/page.asp?partid=9.http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/events/statecompetitions/webawards/winners2005/secondary/11/aboriginaldis.htmhttp:// www.thewe .cc/weplanet/news/people/australia/breaking_the_circle_of_crime.htmlhttp://www.racismnoway.com.au/library/history/http://www.biographybase.com/biography/Mabo_Eddie.htmlemily evelyn hill
