One thing I've learned is that no path to recovery is wrong, and because I've found recovery in rooms, that doesn't mean it will be everyone's path. I encourage each of my clients to find that path for themselves, I am armed with resources to help them but would never push my opinions on them. This was a very important lesson for me and my perspective on addiction because I was “raised” in a structure that promoted twelve-step groups and made me understand that their way was the only way, that the concept of disease was real and that medical care treatment was the devil.
