Blindness is a disability only for those who are mentally blind. Shakespeare being a man of keen mental sight, had the ability to portray mental blindness in many of his works. As one of the best writers, he is actively able to capture the four elements of a well-made work: twists and turns, denouement, timely entrances and exits, and incredibly compelling scene entrances and conclusions. Having written 38 plays with two original plots, Shakespeare expresses his themes through passionate romance, pain-filled tragedy, inviting story, and hilarious comedy. One of his most famous plays is the comedy titled Much Ado About Nothing. In this play the comic aspects greatly underline the important theme of self-knowledge. Self-knowledge is the most imperative form of knowledge one can acquire as it is the ability to recognize and accept through forgiveness one's shortcomings. Thus the ability to love oneself, love others and participate in the love of God. The two subplots of Dogberry as well as Benedict and Beatrice coincide with the main plot of Don Pedro and Claudio to convey Shakespeare's main idea that for seeing reality for what it truly is, self-knowledge is necessary. and Benedict are able to see reality for what it is once self-knowledge is obtained. Like most of the characters in Much Ado About Nothing, Beatrice and Benedict lack self-knowledge, which leads them to misperceive reality. This is relevant based on the interactions of the two with each other. Their witty banter with each other is an effect of this, masking their true feelings for each other by seeing themselves as enemies of their opponent. They also perceive everything as a joke... middle of paper... misunderstanding of rry, surroundings and self-knowledge. With this one could easily say that self-knowledge is necessary in order to understand reality for what it is and also for oneself. Sometimes, however, appearance actually leads to truth through deception. For example, Beatrice and Benedick's deception into believing that the other loved them brought to light their true feelings of love for each other. Furthermore, from Borachio's false arrest for defaming Don John, it appears that Don John is the reason why Innocent Hero is accused of committing adultery the night before her wedding. But those who are physically blind can still imagine the image of the puzzle they assemble, however a person who is mentally blind will never understand the image sitting in front of them enough to be able to erect the puzzle in the first place.
