Helena. The French Revolution obviously had a major impact on Europe and the rest of the world. France has lost many of its citizens trying to escape political tensions and save their lives. Many settled mainly in neighboring countries (Great Britain, Germany, Austria and Prussia), but quite a few also moved to the United States. The French Revolution was positive because it displaced many French people, leading to the spread of French culture and policies regulating immigration. The impact this had on France was overwhelming, as it shaped politics, society, religion and new ideologies. The closer the countries became to France, the greater and more profound was the French impact, which brought liberalism and the end of many feudal or traditional laws and practices. However, the negative effects of the revolution were a conservative counterreaction that defeated Napoleon, the restoration of the Bourbon kings and the overthrow of some new kings.
