“When all you have is a hammer, all problems start to look like nails.” -Abraham MaslowAs tools, the four different ways of knowing can apply to this quote in the pursuit of knowledge. What role does perception play in how you see solutions to problems? To what extent should emotions influence how humans perceive the types of solutions to a problem? How might a person's reasoning influence how they solve a citation problem? What can we learn from language, as a tool, in the search for knowledge? The vision of the solution to a problem is played by the role of perception. My perception of almost all problems is that I solve the problem in the safest way. I look at the problem as something that will take time, no matter what, and if I have to take the time to deal with it, I might as well take the time to solve it safely. When I'm driving and I'm in a long left turn line, I choose to simply wait until it's my turn to be safe and keep everyone in the car with me safe as well. My brothers perception in most situations is speed. Once you reach the long left turn line, he suggests rejoining the traffic, and turning onto a side street to turn right. According to him this is a quicker solution to the problem. When my brother is in a hurry, safety is no longer a priority for him. The perception of a solution plays a key role in solving a problem. Karl Marx's perception of a solution to making our world equal raises the question of whether or not his ideal solution is ethical. His solution to world hunger, poverty and hierarchies is theoretically exceptional. However, making sure that we are all brought to the same level of knowledge is unethical. When someone is smarter than another, t...... middle of paper ...... k to us in words, body movements and other actions. By analyzing the quote, the language can be used to distinguish the biases of it. In the quote you can distinguish the meaning of some words. When talking about a hammer, the quote might imply that there is only one solution to your problem. Comparing nails to problems could be biased in the sense that all you have to come up with is a solution and then the problem is solved with a quick hammer blow. In science we use many different languages. As science is used all over the world, though, we need to have something that relates everything so that scientists can understand each other in the pursuit of knowledge. For someone to share knowledge, there must be a bridge that connects the interlocutors so they can solve a problem. Language is a necessary key to finding a solution to a problem.
