Topic > Fantasy versus reality in Guy De's necklace...

The ending of the story shows that the hard work done by Mr. and Mrs. Loisel for ten years was useless because the lost necklace is just a fake. It also shows that if Mrs. Loisel had only told Mrs. Forrestier about the incident, she could have lived a life remembering only that wonderful night at the party. Why was the necklace always fake? The main reason for this ending is because “this type of ending is often associated with Guy de Maupassant” (Allen 307). However, this aspect of the story causes a twist that causes the reader to take Mrs. Loisel's side. She may have started out as an arrogant woman, but she turns out to be a woman who learns her lessons the hard way.
