Topic > The Importance of Writing an Autobiography - 1048

As Kierkegaard surmised, "Life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forwards." People going through transitions in their lives may find the workshop useful as an opportunity to explore where they have been, where they are and where they are going. Some participants write their autobiography as a legacy for their families. The writers expressed concern and joy about what their children and grandchildren will think when they read stories they didn't know about their family. Garth Dawson and his wife Bonnie attended three autobiography workshops at different locations. Garth wrote his first autobiography, “Here's Fifty,” while he and Bonnie were teaching in Poland for the Peace Corps. With an expectation of writing at least two pages each week, she helped Garth with his autobiography which follows in detail the post-retirement years and the adventures, challenges and lessons learned along the way.
