It is generally believed that cells go through a cycle in which they grow, divide, and then die. Lung cancer cells, however, grow and divide, but never die, a phenomenon called apoptosis (scab). Lung cancer is by far the deadliest cancer (Marks) because signs and symptoms do not appear early enough for screening (Know). There are signs and symptoms that can appear, but it all depends on where the cancer is located in the lungs. Symptoms may include: chest pain, intense cough, difficulty breathing and swallowing, rasping sounds when breathing, and/or coughing up blood (Crust). If the cancer has spread to other locations, symptoms may include: fatigue, unexplained weight loss, weakness, facial neck swelling, or joint pain (scabbing). The reason many people are diagnosed with lung cancer is because they inhale dangerous carcinogens. These carcinogens damage the DNA of many cells which “helps” the cells turn into cancer. Things like tobacco, radiation, the sun and car exhaust fumes are known carcinogens (Cab). Of course, smoking also causes cancer. Smoking puts smokers at greater risk than non-smokers. The more cigarettes you smoke per day and the earlier you start smoking, the higher your risk of being diagnosed with this cancer (lung cancer).
