The political ways of Augustus would have been the framework followed by Julius Caesar. Combining Augustus' method of implementation and Julius Caesar's warfare tactics, they would have made an excellent leader. Julius Caesar's weakness in politics was highlighted by Augustus' strengths. John Laursen points out a mistake Caesar made that Augustus corrected. “The masterstroke of Augustus' policy, however, was to take upon himself only the potestas tribunicia, the power of the plebeian tribune, who had never had imperium, that is, the constitutional, administrative, juridical and military power of the high magistrates in the republican hierarchy. In this way Augustus safeguarded his imperium by calling it Trinician power." Laursen highlights Augustus' attempts to involve the power of the plebeian tribune, or the people of Rome. He wanted to make them feel like they had a voice. If they felt listened to, dissent rarely occurred. Caesar brazenly ignored the opinions of those who mattered.
